Building your site

The steps and procedures AMI follows in building your website.

These steps and procedures are followed to ensure the quality of the product we deliver. The steps may vary from website to website depending on the nature and size of the project.

1. Analysis:
Initially you the client will make contact with AMI to discuss your requirements. We will listen to your needs, ask questions and find out as much as we can to give us a clear picture of what you are trying to achieve and who is your targeted audience. AMI will carryout a complete analysis of how the web site can add a new dimension to your business and bring increased efficiency, sales and productivity. Issues such as hardware, software, timescale and budget will also be considered at this stage.
The size of the project will dictate the amount of time spent on analysis.
AMI will come up with a complete cost-benefit analysis and a detailed plan for the project.

Input: Interviews with the client, Emails/mail and supporting documents by the client, Discussions Notes, Telephone conversations, Model sites/ Example applications etc.

2. Specification Building:
AMI will draw up preliminary specifications covering each and every element of the requirements. Specifications include the general layout, site navigation, components to be used, content management, hardware, software, hosting etc. Larger projects will require further levels of consultation to assess additional business and technical requirements. After reviewing and approving the preliminary document, a written proposal is prepared, outlining the scope of the project including responsibilities, timelines and costs. AMI will present you the client with our proposal which you can look over and suggest any modifications if necessary.

Input: Reports from our analysis team
Output: Complete requirement specifications to you the customer.

3. Design and development:
After building the specifications, work on the web site is scheduled upon receipt of the signed proposal, a deposit, and any written content materials and graphics you wish to include. At this stage normally the layouts and navigation will be designed as a prototype.

Some customers may be interested only in a fully functional prototype, but in most of the cases the customer may be interested in viewing two or three designs with all images and navigation. AMI is open to a lot of suggestions and changes from the customer side, and all the changes will have to be completed and verified before moving into the next phase. We can show you the revisions via the web rather than more meetings, though that will be your choice.
As needed, customer comments, feedback and approvals can be communicated by e-mail, fax and telephone.

4. Content writing:
We will design and develop the site. As for the content it is best that you provide us with the text. You know more about your site than we do. There are however professional content writers who can provide you with content for your site, though AMI will write the content should you request us to do so.
The grammatical and spelling check should be over in this phase.

Input: Designed template
Output: Site with content

5. Coding:
At this stage with a template in place our developer will now get to work. He will know the interface and his code should not disturb the look and feel of the site or application. Our developer may need to interact with our designer, in order to understand the design. Our developer will generate necessary testing plans as well as technical documentations. The end-user documentation can also be prepared at this stage.

Submitting your URL once every month is an ideal submission policy. If the customer is willing, then paid click and paid submissions can also be done with additional cost.

Input: Site with content

8. Maintenance and Updating:
Web sites will need quite frequent updates to keep them very fresh and attract repeat and returning visitors. AMI provides content management solutions that allow for the customer to easily update the site with fresh and up-to-date content.
No matter what web site or application that is developed there will always be bugs, even Microsoft have to release fixes to their applications. Bug fixes can be done during the time of maintenance. Once your web site is operational, ongoing promotion, technical maintenance, content management & updating, site visit activity reports, staff training and mentoring is needed on a regular basis depending on the complexity of your web site and the needs within your organization.

Input: Site/Application, content/functions to be maintained and updated, re-Analysis reports

The above-mentioned steps alone are not set in stone. Some steps may not applicable for certain tasks. It depends on the cost and time involved and the necessity. Sometimes if it is an intranet site, then there will be no site promotion. Using the guidelines and steps above the quality of our product is improved.
